Fetishes and Kinks: Are they the same?

Even if they are still kind of taboo, these terms are starting to be kind of mainstream. With the arrival of Tiktok and those hundreds of women explaining how they make a living by selling feet pictures or user content, a new world has been opened to most of us. Because of course, feet fetish is just the tip of the iceberg... and there is a whole world to discover.

But first... what are kinks?

To put it simply, a kink is something that turns you on and falls outside the norm of what would be considered romanticized sex between two people. Some atypical or non-traditional sexual desires or fantasies that arouse you, and probably will turn you on more than anything else but are not necessarily needed for you to be able to have an enjoyable sexual encounter.

For example, you like getting spanked, but if you are in a situation where is not possible (maybe you didn't have time to arrive home and had to drag your partner to the bathroom of the restaurant), you can still get aroused and enjoy having sex.

How are kinks different from fetishes?

The biggest difference between kinks and fetishes is the necessity. While kinks are preferences that will simply make your experience more exciting, when someone has a fetish there is a NEED to engage in their desires to be able to get excited and "finish".

Also, technically fetishes refer to a sexual attraction towards an inanimate object or body part. So actually a fetish is a type of kink.

There are three fetish categories

1. Media: In this first category, the fetish is developed related to some particular material, such as rubber, latex, leather, and silk. It can be represented in a lot of different ways, such as getting excited while wearing certain material, getting excited while someone else is wearing it, or just by having sexy while feeling the material touching the skin.

2. Form: In this category, the excitement related to the shape of the object. Some examples could be different kinds of women's shoes (such as stilettos), some pieces of clothing (such as login or lingerie)...

3. Animate: In this category is where we can find all of the fetishes related to body parts, such as feet, cleavage, hair...

Is it normal to have fetishes?

Yes! We need to understand that the reason why fetishes have been seen as a taboo, or something related only to low-class people is because that is a way to make sure that people will not explore them. Or if they do, they die before letting anyone find out.

I am a fetishist... What I do now?

First of all, you need to understand that as long as it is always consensual and it's not affecting your daily life, there is nothing wrong with you or your desires. In fact, it is healthier for you to express, explore, and enjoy them, then try to suppress them.

Are you feeling like a weirdo, or ashamed to speak about it with your closest friends? Don't stress! Do some research and you will realize that you are not the first or last having this type of desires! There are huge communities out there, where you can meet and engage with a lot of amazing people with your same-sex desires, starting from Twitter or Instagram. So... what are you waiting for?

As recommended by sex expert Dev Karan, "Generally it's seen that a fetish is accompanied with certain feelings of guilt or shame. Try and seek other people who share the same sexual desires and practice them"

Have fun!
